What to know about Miles McBride
Miles McBride will have limited opportunities to play this season. The point guard from West Virginia will a lot of competition to overcome, as he sits behind Jalen Brunson, Derrick Rose and Immanuel Quickley. It’s going to be hard to find him minutes, but he is a tough player that brings a tonne of energy to the floor. At times this may be required to get the team going.
Miles McBride at the Summer League
McBride has had his moments this offseason. He was one of the leading scorers for the Knicks as they reached the Summer League finals, although they lost 85-77 to the Portland Trailblazers.
Over his 5 summer league games, these were his stats:
- vs Warriors: 14 points (3/10 FG, 3/8 3FG), two rebounds, seven assists, one steal, one turnover
- vs Bulls: 14 points (6/8 FG, 2/4 3 FG), three rebounds, six assists, three steals, one turnover
- vs Trail Blazers: 16 points (6/15 FG, 2/8 3FG), one rebound, four assists, three steals, one turnover

- vs Trail Blazers: 17 points, (4/10 FG, 2/5 3FG), six rebounds, three assists, one steal, two turnovers
His big game came against the Orlando Magic, minus the 6 turnovers, he was efficient and showed some ability to score.
Not just at the Summer League, but in all his games to date, Miles McBride shows a willingness to compete. He gets after the ball defensively and sees the ball extremely well, which helps him to anticipate his opponents movements. McBride has the uncanny ability to steal the ball.
His role on the New York Knicks
McBride is likely the 3rd or 4th point guard option on this team, but he has a strong mindset. His goal is to earn minutes this season.
“Doing whatever I can to be on the floor [is my mindset],”
Miles McBride
In an interview with the New York Post, McBride said he’ll do whatever it takes to be on the floor. “If that means making shots, bringing the ball up, finding the open man, playing defense, I’m doing anything I can to be on the floor.”
With this mindset, willingness to improve and the intensity with which he plays, he is bound to get playing time on a Tom Thibedeau team. It will be interesting to see him grow with the team this upcoming 2022-23 season.
